This thread may be nine years old, but I still found it helpful when I acquired a pair of Hawks recently. Thanks to previous posters for giving me something to think about. I had a limited budget, so I did my best to find an amp with a substantial power supply, for bass definition, and a reputation for sounding relatively ’balanced’ as opposed to ’bright’. I bought an old Sumo Nine, which is class A and 60W into 8 ohms (120 W into 4 ohms) for the equivalent of $600 USD. I don’t know if an amp such as a Naim or Plinius would have sounded better, but I’m very happy with the sound. It’s much, much better than the Marantz PM6006 integrated amp I’d been using before. Here's another discussion I found useful: https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15423 |
