Bel Canto PL-1 and upcoming PL-1A

Hi,

I started looking through the thread on the best CD player and found the opinions were too varied. I wanted to focus the discussion down between a couple of players.

I'm considering making a change on my CD player. I own a Linn Ikemi. I heard a Cary Audio CD 306 this weekend and thought it was outstanding: great bass, wide soundstage. I liked the bass especially from it.

I spoke to a rep at Sound by Singer and he suggested the Bel Canto PL-1A that's coming out soon. He said it's better than the Cary. He sells both. And it's better than the Accuphase DP-75v, which he also sells.

My question, does anyone own a Bel Canto PL-1? Or know anything about Bel Canto's products? I know they make nice DACs.

Also, if anyone's got some opinions on my current system front end, I'd welcome them. I'm happy with the back end now.

Also, any customers out there can recommend Sound by Singer? I've never worked with them.

My system:

Linn Ikemi Cd player
Adcom GFP-750 preamp
Pass Labs X-350 power amp
Nordost Blue Heaven speaker cables
Thiel 3.6 speakers
jk2468
I have the Bel Canto player (with Faroudja processing) and bought it for state of the art DVD-V and multichannel music. For curiosity, I compared to my reference Musical Fidelity NuVista 3D for redbook playback. I had to buy a Sony DV999ES for video playback (with nearly comparable video capability for $650!!). The Bel Canto is now my new audiophile reference. The amazing thing is that it does not upsample. Bel Canto told me that they used a different design philosophy in this piece vs. their highly regarded DAC2.

regards, PK Das.
