Anyone with technical knowledge RE: ADS L1290

Hi,

I was fortunate to purchase an almost new pair of ADS L1290 speakers.

Unfortunately one of the tweeters is not functioning. I found the owners manual In the "offical" manual it states that the speakers have fuses for both the midrange and tweeter speakers.

In an addendum entitled "Dear ADS L1290 Owners", it states that "An advanced solid state tweeter protector, located inside the speaker, replaces the tweeter fuse". "This protector interrupts the signal to the tweeter only when overload occurs, then automatically restores proper operation after the signal level is reduced." Signed Dick Moore, Technical Assistant to the President"

Please post if you think if this issue can be repaired or if this tweeter should be replaced.

Check my response to you on the 25th, and I gave you the info on Richard So and his e-mail address. When ADS went out of business a few years ago, he bought all their inventory and does ADS speaker repair. He also has some new items. Yes, he is still in business.
Your tweeter is a 3/4" tweeter with internal protection, so I would stay with that. Glad everything worked ok for you.

Sid42,

Yes, sorry, I missed your post on the 25th.

I sent an email to Richard tonight. I am hoping he has a new speaker and he can repair my old speaker as I would love to have a spare!

Again, thanks
Hello,

I just picked up a pair of minty L1290's (series 1) according to this thread and I just think they are wonderful. I however cannot find the owners manual. I would appreciate if anyone with information on how I can get even a copy or pdf version of it would get in touch.

Thanks,

mjmudd,

I have an original owners manual that I can scan and send you.
I'll try and remember to do it tonight.
