He said if you thought magico m9 was good at axpona you don't know hifi.

smodtactical

I own a McDonald’s, Burger King sucks.
Never trust a person who changes his hairstyle, 💇‍♂️

Anyone one who “knows HiFi”. knows shows are some of the worst demos you’ll hear.  Sometimes it’s phenomenal but often not so much.

All the speakers i ever heard in my life sound bad in various ways in a non controlled room...All of them...

There is certainly exception but i dont know them...

And even if a pair of speakers seems to sound good for your ears, be sure that they dont sound at all like they were designed to be at their  OPTIMAL best in  most living room..And the difference in performance  is huge between a living room and a dedicated completely controlled  room.... ( i know that for sure i take 2 years to create one )

I owned the Tannoy dual gold for 40 years and i neve4r heard them really all these years ...

Why?

Like most audiophiles i ignored  completely the basic acoustics principles and how to use and control the parameters at play and they are intricate and numerous...

Subjectivist who "Taste" speakers brand  name or objectivist who measured them are in the same bag, they ignore how to set a room to let a specific speakers reach his peak performance ...

Then a reviewer  bash a brand ?  So what...

All reviewers spoke the same language as the consumers : costlier upgrade of their prefered brand name miraculous gear solution proposition   with no acoustics basic...

cool

Take the speed of sound divide it by the room dimensions and you will know why in my past room the sound wave cross the room 80 times each second interacting with all the acoustic various  material content of the room .... This must ring a bell no ? it ring a bell in my brain when i begun to thought about the way to control these reflections path and pressure nodes...

Nevermind the speakers and his price...

We always  hear a system /room ....Not a branded name....

I’m not clicking on the above link to artificially enhance OCD Mikey’s profile.

And why does this guy opinion have any significance?

Reading comments about the Magico M9 on Reddit is better time wasted than the video. Some are quite funny!

A few years back I heard a top praised amplifier company paired up with a top praised speaker company that was all the rage at the time for some folks.  This was at a decent audio show.

This particular room and components sounded about 89th out of 89 rooms, Absolutely horrible.   The source used, room selected, speaker setup, and positioning was about as bad as as it could be and it sure sounded that way.

Felt bad for the designers of the manufacturers who never intended for their products to be displayed and set up like this for the public to hear this way.

Over time, you kind of learn until you hear things in your room and with your system, setup, you never really know.

While I occasionally drop into his channel to appreciate some of the interesting gear, OCD Mike himself Is hard to take.  He’s like a combination of every obnoxious, loud, opinionated audiophile and audio salesman I’ve ever met rolled into one.

hey, he seems to mistake having a loud opinion With being a “No BS truth teller.”

He projects a heavy sleazeball vibe, And frankly, some of the people he seems to hang out with and admire Only reinforce that.

that room at axpona was very underwhelming, I know it wasn't the speaker/gear/etc it was the room, but why the hell would you put such a massive system in that room, you always show your best for the right situation, they dropped the ball

I could only stomach about two seconds of OCD Mikey before turning away from his channel, never to return.  Happy listening.

A room at a hifi show is the place to get an idea how something sounds but not the environment to truly gauge a loudspeaker. That guy is a total blowhard.

wtf is even OCD Mickey and why should anyone care

Did you actually spend one hour and forty minutes of your life watching that idiotic drivel?

And wtf is with this trend of reposting "controversial" videos by YouTube cretins? Take this sh t to reddit and see what happens, thanks

The average "super audiophile" prospective customer...is sitting in a room in his house that’s acoustically worse than the hotel room. Room construction and treatment are like kryptonite for such a super audiophile cat...he shall fix everything with cables, his secret weapon!

I.e., rest assured, it will sound even worse than the hotel room in the rooms of Magic0’s prospective super audiophile customers.

But Magic0 shall always have the following excuses, i suppose..

A) it’s not the speaker, it’s the room

B) it’s not the speaker, it’s the electronics

C) it’s not the speaker, it’s YOU (prospective customer).

It shall NEVER be Magic0’s fault!

In any case, there were other speakers at the show that actually sounded good, considering they had to face the same realities of a hotel room setup, yes? They were able to create some magic that magic0 couldn’t, it seems.

Hence, Magic0 shouldn’t get any free passes, yes?

Mickey smokes too much weed , I watched a few YouTube’s

his choices are the only good ones ,I think Not !!

What a waste of a report from him. He said that it probably was the room not the system. That's the problem. At shows if a system sounds great it is. If it sounds bad you have no idea what's going on. So why report on the sound then. Magico is a big company and this waste of time won't hurt them. But if this was a new, small company a report like this could hurt a company and maybe even put them out of business. It's irresponsible to do this kind of show report.

By the way. Who is this guy. I never heard of him before. Is he just what he's complaining about, another 'expert' who only exists because anyone can post on the internet?

Mikey does not smoke weed. Or drink. He thinks there are better speakers out there for the money than Magico and his main issue is the aluminum enclosure.

You might not like Mike but he has 25 years in the business, has designed his own speakers and cables, knows hit shite and has the best intentions and good ears.

Personally, I'd never buy Magico speakers as there are better speakers.

Do what's best for yourself.

Mikey's splashy generalizations notwithstanding I have auditioned Magicos in a very well set up listening room with outstanding equipment driving them and I was underwhelmed.  They sounded lazy to me.

space and setup are often an underappreciated determinant of the sound of a system.....PERIOD

I listened to that 2-million-dollar system at AXPONA, and it was nice but nowhere near worth that kind of money. I left very unimpressed BUT like others said it wasn't an ideal place for a demo. Also, when I went, they had it playing at a VERY LOW level.

How is it that if my room speakers sound not to my taste (too much bass, too much highs, unnatural timbre etc) i can modify it at will at no cost ?

How is it and why no reviewers ever explained how to do it with any speakers at any cost?

Simple, you are  supposed to buy and stay ignorant as i was for all my life believing in gear marketing as solutions...

For sure gear design of various quality exist, we get what we pay for, once this is said a very acceptable good sound can be implemented at peanuts cost, it is relative to your needs, if you learn acoustics...

It was even useful to understand my headphone  (K340)behaviour and optimize it as i did  with my low cost speakers  ...

I never listen reviewers now i listen my room....

l love ocd mickey, he is so good.  i dont understand him, but he good.  👍

cool amp he has with really big tube, so cool.

....anyone who has the wherewithal to drop 3/4's of a mil on a pair of M9's wouldn't have the slightest interest in mho about them.

As one who applauds the use of different materials for an enclosure for speakers but sees pretty much the 'same old same old' batch of drivers mounted in them, I'm kinda disappointed.  JBL decades back 'round about the era of the L100's made a plastic enclosure that seemed to perform decent....but disappeared rather quickly...

Ah....drilling around....'dah taha' 🎶

The colors were rather brash, but taste being what it can be....*L*

Given the choice, I'd opt for a pair of MBL's, given the rarified pedigree level.
In my rather cynical HO, the M9 falls into the category of 'brag toys'....
"I can afford them, just Because I Can...."

...and you live in a gated community with security staffing...

Just saying....

Who listens to ocd anyway? He bad mouths every brand, every dealer, but he comes to the rescue with his gear.

The room is the #1 area that needs to be fixed before doing anything. A bad room will make a great speaker sound like sh$t. But a good room can make a bad speaker sound a little better, but can’t perform magic.

As for changing the way speakers sound, there are many ways to do this for either free or for small amount of money. Speaker positioning can alter the sound in a big way. Change the inside wiring or alter the crossover to make sq changes.
System synergy is another area to look at.

Like a Garfield Monday, every time you think this hobby’s landscape can’t get any worse - it does. The rise of blowhard youtube reviewer "personalities" is the latest escalation of this.
