I found a way to get around tariffs that will raise the price of audio equipment. What is your solution?

Yes I am serious and this will work. Much talk has been created about sitting down and enjoying the music... finally. Even more discussions about the ever ending quest for better gear vs just enjoying the gear you now own.

So that's what I will do. I am not buying new gear. I will enjoy the music now.

Already purchased my big ticket items last year with the anticipation this all could take place. Another option is purchasing used items from private sellers.

I’m definitely vibing with this perspective. We can’t control tariffs, but we can control our approach and amount of appreciation/content we have towards our current listening spaces. I don’t know the statistics, but I’d argue that less than 0.5% of the population has listened or owned a decent 2-channel system in a well-thought-out room in a residence. We’re all very fortunate - in light of contentment sometimes being/feeling elusive.

Ah, the ’ellusive contentment zone’.

That may work for a short time. The tariff effect will probably be less than expected and the need to purchase more stuff will continue. Just a short pause in consumption. It’s a sickness, much like alcoholism in a quest for happiness.

Most importantly be kind to others (stop arguing politics) and be happy with what you have. Then you can relax and enjoy the music. Easier said than done.

WHY..I FULLY AGREE...

BOYCOTT ALL HIFI PRODUCTS AND MAKE THESE FAT CATS SLIM DOWN.

(Buy music and pay the starving skeletal artists though)

I completed my retirement system 4 years ago, and it's fabulously firing on all cylinders!!!  I have no plans on purchasing anything high end audio for the foreseeable future. I'm in a good place.  Happy listening.

Yay add one more thing to the ruined list. This is really great! Winning is overrated.

Well the subject is tariff which relates to consumer electronics industry. Isn’t that a political thing? Fine with me either way. Words can’t hurt me.

Most rock stars are over the hill as well.  Thank G-d for old recordings.  Just saying.

It’s hard enough to find good audio dialog here these days.

Seriously?  @grannyring , any forum on this site you click on is loaded with audio dialogue.  How hard are you not looking?

But we want to talk to each other on this site about various subjects, I don't want to go to other specialized forums. But it should be meaningful, not just statements and definitely not propaganda.

Turns into bickering and name calling more than ever. Political rants pepper threads also.

I just did a cursory scroll through the threads on misc and that seems like a very small percentage of the posts.  And on other forums on this site an even smaller percentage.  I mean, if that's what you are focused on, I guess I can see how it might seem that way.  But in reality, I do not think that is an accurate statement.

I look forward to my audiophile summer house in Greenland. Why Greenland ? Because it's there.

Tariffs are nothing, we've been robbed for decades, anyway, and this is bound to continue no matter what. Degree might slightly vary, though.

It's corporation America.

I read here as much as you. Too many examples is my point.

Those are obviously the ones that stick in your mind, but I assert that they are the clear minority of the threads/posts and it is certainly easy not to click on something once you see that it is something that annoys you.

How will you avoid the higher costs of audio gear associated with tariffs?

New or used gear?

@grannyring

It's the same 4 individuals, three of which have posted above and the other seagull squad member will be along soon.

It's not what side of the political spectrum they are droning on about, it's that they don't show respect to keep politics out of this website.  The source of the problem is that they don't realize how much quicker on the uptake the average A'gon member is, and the result is we are insulted that they either don't realize we got the message the first 50 times posted, or worse, that they don't even remember posting and that is why the repeats.

That is why they were dubbed "the seagull squad" in a previous OP, they don't offer much else except sh*tting on other people's posts.

I don't know anyone without "problems".

nonoise, that was worse than talking politics, it was a personal attack on Audiogon members.

@inna

No, it was in response to a personal, hyperbolic attack about something I didn't do.

@grannyring

You can’t just talk politics here because one finds it interesting or just needs to vent. Not allowed here.

It’s not allowed? Then why are Audiogon moderators so slow to step in and shut it down? Seems to me, this ambiguity is itself a problem -- it’s not actually clear whether political discussion is allowed or not.

Another issue is that, due to widespread disinformation (thanks to Zuckerberg and other tech bros who’ve gotten rich off providing platforms for disinformation to flourish) what was once regarded as fact is now open to criticism by anyone who finds a fact inconvenient. So we end up arguing over whether X is actually a problem, before we even get around to discussing how to address X.

Look at it from our point of view.  What you posters who are justifying talking politics just don't seem to understand is that you are soul shattering boring to tears.  Regurgitating what we can read anywhere.

One likely supposition is that no one in your personal lives gives a rat's a*s to listen to you so you have nowhere else to express your opinions.

nonoise, yes, but it was retaliation on your part. Could you respond differently, especially if you believe that those people have certain difficulties ?

I say again….

Returning to the original subject, I too am not going to buy anything significant in the near future, either audiophile or not. I am just going to save what I can, there is a lot of uncertainty. Hopefully the dollar value will hold, more or less.

Just spent $500 on NOS matched quad tubes to have a spare set. Couldn't resist, and these tubes are going more and more difficult to find. Tubes are like batteries in a sense, you must have them when you need them. Oh, I better go buy some batteries too, by the way, for my high end flashlights and couple of remote controls.

@inna

I wasn't aware of these "difficulties" you speak of. Just from reading the many posts he made, clearly articulated and full of venom betrayed no "difficulties" that I could discern.

As for buying anything, I'm done as well. I just received a watch from Sweden with no problems but as soon as April 2nd, all bets are off which is a shame as I just read a great review on the Vinshine Audio Tai Hang DC blocker that replaced the Furutech he was using at a cheaper price and had much better results.

Guess I'll have to wait for that one.

All the best,
Nonoise

What an excellent decision...... those highly concentrated cholesterol orbs can compromise your health. Eat oatmeal for breakfast, save cash and become a shining receptacle of health....while the cholesterol Kings & Queens fight over eggs at the grocery store and further deplete their sorry looking wallets.

I have also quit eggs.

Hard to believe some of these posts are even real or serious? Really? It’s pretty obvious Audiogon is not the place to find political wisdom. It’s hard enough to find good audio dialog here these days. Problem is the same old folks keep loading this site with dramatized political posts based on what they fear, not reality. In addition, none of it should even be posted per Agon rules. Audio is our topic, not political fears and drama.

Grannyring. So true. And we want people to have a enjoyable, civilized discussion on a hobby we quite care about.  Yes even a nice retreat from all the drama. Yet these posts you mentioned contradict that for sure.

Reading all the recriminations from one side, coupled with all the bro love for MC in another thread by some of the very same members, takes me back to before he was banned for being virulently political.

He'd post screeds and manifestos, all taken from the right wing fever swamp trying to recruit members to his way of thinking. I saw it for what it was and warned that the FBI put out advisories on the very same tactics and topics he was using on members here.

They seemed to love him since he was very articulate (but full of it) and were dazzled by his talent. Some here who are now protesting over a nothing burger were lined up behind him, defending him. I wish deleted threads were available to link to for reference as I'd point all the ones here to what they said and did back then.

All the best,

That is why they were dubbed "the seagull squad" in a previous OP, they don’t offer much else except sh*tting on other people’s posts.

@jetter , the OP on that one actually made the analogy between some of us and sea gulls, and then, being that the OP is "always nonpolitical" he went on to call us "the squad" (NOT "the seagull squad") naming us after 4 members of the House Of Representatives, a name which I believe can be originally attributed to one of his political role models and heroes, who is also a convicted criminal. I asked him if I was part of The Squad did that make him Perjury Taylor Greene or Lauren Blowbert or Scary Lake? He never got back to me on that one.

There does not seem to be any hard and fast evidence, @deep_333 , whether high serum LDL cholesterol can be attributed to diet or not.  There does seem to be a definite link to alcohol, tobacco, stress, sedentary life style and obesity.  Eggs are not necessarily linked to obesity, and they are an excellent source of a complete protein with only 5 or 6 grams of fat.

Lots of good quality used gear out there. An economy is overrated.

I eat eggs and oatmeal for breakfast. So there! I do go easy on the yokes though.

Are we allowed to talk about breakfast foods? I don’t think they have much to do with audio though cholesterol issues tend to never help anything.  They do say “everything matters” though….
