Can one ever be "done" in this hobby? I live in the "twilight zone of zero self control" (Walter Becker line) and in my decently funded retirement I enjoy my self indulgent audio, guitars, a Triumph air cooled motorcycle, sporty German cars, mechanical watches, longboards, SUP boards,...
Tubes or stick with S/S Note that Dennis Had's amps are almost unobtainium and I found mine, a late 2016 sep ("p" for pentode), simply from a lucky Ebay score. You can buy the mono blocks from Moon Audio but they're pricey although likely worth it. My little Firebottle v...
Can one ever be "done" in this hobby? Kaitty, you're excused and please don't come back (my wishful thinking impulse kicked in). Regarding the subject at hand, note the word "hobby." Changing components including cables and tubes or whatever can be FUN, and I, like many, don't change ...
Old tubes vs New tubes I've enjoyed many new tubes including Gold Lion KT88s, 77s, Tung Sol KT120s,150s, 6550s, and my new fave the 7581a. All new, all great tubes. For preamp or driver tubes NOS Mullards, Sylvanias, GE...all plentiful and often not too expensive, and t...
Tubes or stick with S/S Tubes are simply more interesting as you can swap 'em out (you eventually have to do that anyway, so that part of "interesting" is built in) to adjust tonal preferences, they look cool...my 7581a tubes have that blue glow fluorescence, their linea...
Rega RP3 or Mofi Studio Deck ? Rega's "no VTA" thing has always bugged me, and shims just seem tawdry. I've been considering replacing my vintage el-cheapo Linn Basik/Akito table but it sounds so good I can't seem to let it go...it doesn't do anything wrong but...hmm...however,...
Bi-wiring? Bi-wiring utterly depends on the speaker as some benefit from it and others don't. Example: I had a pair of the excellent Silverline Preludes for years and when I spoke to the designer (thought I might need a woofer...I didn't), Alan Yun, he told ...
Adcom GFP-710 to Schiit Freya - upgrade? I left out the best part...a hand made little Dennis Had Inspire "Firebottle HO" single ended 12wpc tube amp.
Odyssey "Khartago" Stereo Extreme" amp compared to Schitt's "Vidar" amp I suppose you could compare the Odyssey Extreme with 2 Vidars, but Vidars run in mono might have issues with speaker impedance, or so I've read. Khartago amps have been used by Magico and have been rated among the best in their class for years.
Adcom GFP-710 to Schiit Freya - upgrade? Marantz CD player (used as a transport only), Squeezebox Touch streamer (background music), Linn table, Cambridge DAC and phono amp both utilizing the Pangea power supplies (no longer available, but Peter Madnick designs...extreme low noise monste...
Under speakers Vibrapod or Gaïa Audiosens...maybe, as the main point for me anyway is to keep the speakers's vibration out of the floor which can act as a passive transducer of sorts...there's a simple test I demonstrate to my friends who pretend to be paying attention...play so...
Opinions and recommendations on active loudspeakers The primary reason I've preferred passive speakers for home use (and live stuff, although I do use active speakers and subs in live setups) is simply because I like the ability to try different amps from time to time. I'm addicted to my small sing...
Under speakers Vibrapod or Gaïa I use Vibrapods under my Klipsch Heresy IIIs and, perhaps since they're the proper "weight handling" versions, they work great.
Opinions and recommendations on active loudspeakers Wow...thanks Inna...I had forgotten how handsome I am!
Cage/Cover for Jolida SJ202a Call the Jolida MD people...my experience is that they do answer the phone, and who knows what they have in stock? You might get lucky. |
