Suggestions short 3' tall floorstander?
Klipsch Heresy IIIs...2 feet high and a world class sounding bargain at 99db efficiency, and there's simply nothing quite like these fat little boxes. Unlike Forte IIIs they need a sub or two, but at your budget that would easily fit.
Schiit Freya plus. Is this an upgrade?
Interesting, and I'd buy one if my "original version" seemed noisy or lacking in some way, but it's interesting that Schiit seems to be listening to their critics. Another note, I've found the Tung Sols to be consistent but somewhat duller soundin...
Best speakers for Cary CAD-300se
Ditto on the Heresy IIIs...get a couple of used RELs to go with it and yer done!
Good Inexpensive Amp for Back Yard Speakers
I have a nice clean Adcom 5300 for my outdoor speakers...sounds great and these things are very inexpensive on Ebay.
Who can dance?
A reasonably normal band I played in during the late 70s in Honolulu was offered a bunch of gigs if we played some funk and "disco"...we said hell yeah! Learned whatever we could stand to play (Stevie Wonder, Boz, Average White Band, Joe Tex...wha...
KT88 tube amp
I currently prefer a Had single ended tube amp with a massive 12wpc (efficient speakers) and the thing is very revealing of tube differences, and since there are only 2 power tubes it's relatively inexpensive to mess around with. I've enjoyed KT15...
Classic Sub For A Reasonable Price
I mention this often as it serves to make others feel bad, but I bought both of my RELs at about a year apart (now at least 5 or so years ago) for 200 bucks each after keeping an eye out for ’em on Ebay for a while. Both are the UK made versions, ...
How come Horn + woofer designs are not more popular?
My Klipsch Heresy IIIs with powered subs (2) have the benefit of accurate and controllable bass (independent of the Heresy IIIs anyway), and having not tried a horn loaded home speaker in many years (been using various horn loaded PA speakers for ...
Music lover or audiophile?
It's likely better to be a gear lover instead of a music lover as, since  music wouldn't be a part of this scenario, the gear would just sit there making you happy without the pesky distraction of sound coming from it.
Looking for great jazz guitar recordings - any recommendations?
Hey...I mentioned Scofield first...also note that he absolutely IS jazz in every way...music doesn't have to be dissonant or hard to dance to to be jazz (although I like dissonant or more unhinged stuff also). There's a great Frisell documentary o...
Music lover or audiophile?
Yeah...the serious gearhead will sometimes smirk at the audiophile label to imply they're too hip for that sort of thing, and I call bull****. You enjoy your gear? Try new things from time to time? Roll tubes? Listen actively without the blue glow...
How far have ss amps really come in the last twenty years?
MrDecibel...you said exactly this, "You stated you were in a band, so I believe your ears are shot, and unfortunately, you probably did not use ear protection." That's the comment I was referring to...and I also know different amps obviously sound...
Looking for great jazz guitar recordings - any recommendations?
If you're interested in newer things I'd highly recommend Julian Lage (his jazzier trios are brilliant) including his stuff with Nels Cline (the sort of recent "Nels Cline 4" is great). Bill Frisell kills me...John Scofield's "66" album is hot...I...
Music lover or audiophile?
Anyone addicted to gear swapping as an obsession might be sane, but OCD esque personality quirks best just stay home and get therapy...unless you're happy with that...Not unlike most people around here, I'll try things in my gear heap to see if th...
Am I considered to be a materialistic person?
Spoken as someone who hasn't been to Walden Pond lately.
