What was your first system? When was that?
I mentioned in a previous post that in '69 or '70 I bought a KLH Model 20 (the non-tuner version of these things...regretted not buying the tuner version) that came with those very cool sounding KLH speakers. A great system that just sounded amazi...
What were some of your early Hi-End audio gear/influences?
When I was dropping out of high school to start college early (Spring semester, I had my classes picked out, was all set) there was a ridiculous couple of weeks I had to wait for my paperwork to go through...lame but meh...so I hung out in the lib...
The term "High End" needs to die. Long live Hi-Fidelity!
jsautter...I don't think you got the gist of my post...obviously a good system can be obtained by paying for a new Boulder or D'Agostino "Relentless" amp, $40,000 cables, or any number of things in the range of precious hifi stuff...but a simple e...
Klipsch, high end?
I've decided to finally say something nice about my Klipsch Heresy IIIs because after all, my comments are always important...ahem...they're a really great sounding speaker, unless you own two of them like I do...in that case it's "speakers."
The term "High End" needs to die. Long live Hi-Fidelity!
I like the term "hifi" and use it frequently, and although I'm lucky at this stage in my life to be able to afford pricey stuff, I've always felt that there's a lot of reasonably affordable (a relative term really) brilliantly  designed components...
Tribute bands or bands/artists making a comeback..any favorites out there??
I spoke to his wife at the "merch" table last time they played at my local venue, and she said they do live in London...I bought the latest album on CD and it's great. Note that Barre at 72 has astonishing energy and his guitar chops haven't dimin...
Can You Fell the Love Tonight?
Put yer hands where I can see 'em and back away from me. Thanks.
Tribute bands or bands/artists making a comeback..any favorites out there??
I don't care about "tribute" bands as the entire thing seems silly, but one of my fave touring bands that I've managed to see locally a few times in recent years is the Martin Barre Band, which is sort of a "tribute" to Jethro Tull (or in the case...
What is wrong with a sub?
Good subs add an "atmospheric" thing to a hifi system that has to do with charging the room with frequencies that exist in real music played live, not necessarily chest thumping low notes although they can do that also of course. My my main speake...
Coincident Technology Dynamo 34SE MKIII
When I hear (literally) how good many new tubes are, and how inexpensive they are relative to certain more "precious" vintage (or Chinese) ones, It makes me glad they exist. And yeah, a pair of 7581As are fairly inexpensive...I bought mine from "l...
What is wrong with a sub?
I mix 2 RELs from the same UK made era, a down-firing 100 watt Q108MKII, and a front firing Q150e...the synergy and tonal similarity between these two is remarkable, and they sound great.
Coincident Technology Dynamo 34SE MKIII
The MKII version of that amp seems like a cool thing...I was on the fence between one of those and the Dennis Had amp I actually bought, but Had's amps are somewhat less available or at least rarely available anyway so there's that. Also, I curren...
What is wrong with a sub?
I had considered the "new at the time" Forte IIIs but I already owned two RELs so I went with Heresy IIIs (about half the cost of Fortes). I like the fact that a sub or two (or four) allows you to tailor the bass to the room’s quirks, and multiple...
What does a 'refined sounding' speaker mean ?
I meant AN elegant response. Hate typos...it rendered my comment somewhat inelegant.
what is it in audio that you dislike most?
I dislike the preponderance of those Amazon "Siri" gizmos et al at friend's homes playing crappy and utterly lo-fi sound...sure, you can abandon your privacy to hear whatever you want from barking at the thing, but they're lame except maybe when u...
