Describe ube sound vs solid state
Atamsphere, It's not just with my speakers and it's not just me, others have noticed the same thing for some time now; please see the my earlier post on this thread dated 03-10-15.
Rock and roll speakers?
^Sure, there's no difference at all between listening to Barber Shop Quartets and Wagner. There's no difference listening to multimiked compressed pop music and Blumlein recorded symphonic music. Solo harp music and solo drum music. There's no poi...

Rsrex, I have already recognized lumpy frequency response in loudspeakers before.Geoffkait, some of you may have found that, more recently others found the opposite to be true.Atmasphere, I find tube amps to typically sound brighter than ss amps.M...
Rock and roll speakers?
In an ideal world all speakers would play all kinds of music equally well. In the real world, it's sometimes a bit different. The usual musical demands of Metal and typical chamber music can be quite different, and the same can be said for other m...
Describe ube sound vs solid state
Dollar for dollar through most typical loud speakers; high quality tube amplifying devices will more likely distort frequency response more than high quality solid state amplifying devices will.

Customer Service
Of course Gary used to work for the real Thiel. He carried on the excellent customer service of his predecessor Shari. The real Thiel offered the best customer service I've ever received from any manufacturer of any kind.
Pre-amp recommendation
Many claim that Threshold amps work very well with Audio Research's pre-amps. I'm not familiar with the Gallo Ref SA. I believe it has RCA inputs. Will you need two pairs of RCA outputs from the pre-amp to connect to both the Threshold and Gallo a...

Thiel with "Warmest" Midrange? 2.7 vs 3.7 vs Older
Prof, for the most part I actually agree with you about "...the Thiel sound...", it's the other things such as associated gear, room compatibility and set up where we diverge. But as you say, "That's cool.".
Thiel with "Warmest" Midrange? 2.7 vs 3.7 vs Older
Prof, I find your post very interesting. I think I hear much of the very same things that you do, but come to have very different preferences and conclusions. I must say, I am much more familiar with Thiel's older gear than the models you have spe...
Why do some audiophiles beat up McIntosh?
I'm with Georgelofi, for the life of me I can't imagine why they still put trannies are on their ss amps? When Mac started, they provided a level of quality, durability and consistency that was somewhat unique for the era. They seem to have fallen ...
vintage versus modern speakers
While we still haven't found the measurements that will define which loudspeakers we might find ultimately satisfying, we still need them to produce anything resembling accurate transducers. And to put a bit of this comparison of old vs. new speak...
vintage versus modern speakers
As Larryi and Almarg have touched upon the subjective impressions of some older loudspeakers compared to some newer ones, I would like to add that some older loudspeakers compare rather favorably objectively to some of the newer offerings too. Whe...
