the big one: how do you choose speakers? By what features, data?
@grislybutter These things do not necessarily show up in specs. They are usually design elements that produce a certain effect. Some of it is personal and a matter of experience. For instance, I could care less what a speaker looks like as long as...
the big one: how do you choose speakers? By what features, data?
Speakers are very simple devices that have to obey physical laws like any other transducer. The only other consideration that is as important is the room you are putting them in. This assumes your goal is accuracy, reproducing exactly what is in t...
Sibilance
@jw944ts This is a very common problem which affects the majority of systems occurring with female voices, violins and woodwinds. Stuff with a lot of output in the 3-4 kHz region. The BBC developed the BBC or Gundry dip to handle this problem. It ...

My Sonic Lab Platinum v Gold Signature
@pindac , The Anna is no longer available. It's replacement is called the MC Diamond, a fine cartridge but I am not sure it is a significant improvement on the Verismo. Both are very low output. You have to make sure your phono stage is up to it. ...
How do you high pass your main speakers?
@tony1954 Great year! I'm 02/12. I have been crossing over to subwoofers since the Dahlquist LP1 was released in 1979. The LP 1 used an active 2nd order low pass filter and a passive 1st order high pass filter. They gave a kit of capacitors and yo...
My Sonic Lab Platinum v Gold Signature
@pindac , I almost purchased a Hayabusa but elected not to after looking at it under the microscope. The level of care in construction is not up to any MSL cartridge or the Verismo which I have not seen but I suspect is every bit as good as the MC...
My Sonic Lab Platinum v Gold Signature
Not at all @wrm57. The Signature Platinum is a very easy going cartridge. It is very detailed but never edgy. I do not think there is ever too much detail if the cartridge is neutral.  It is easy to give a false sense of detail by jacking the high...
There's No Question
@tsushima1 , Please don't get me started:-)
There's No Question
@benmeadows , Has absolutely nothing to do with decor. It has to do with cheap parts and construction, not to get better sound to the masses but to make money. I have not even gotten into the silly design philosophy yet, not to mention the terribl...
NEW QUALIO AUDIO IQ SPEAKERS REVIEW : REVELATORY ?!
Absolutely nothing special. I personally do not like AMTs. They sound squishy to me.
Can you give me your speaker suggestions?
Cornwalls. If you had more power Magneplanar 3.7i
Turntable Upgrade Advice
Origin Live has a reputation for less than stellar customer service. I would stick with the Michell. Also, buying used turntables is risky. Main bearings are easy to damage. I would only buy used if I knew the owner.
Jazz for aficionados
@rok2id , That is true of Metheny except his very first album Bright Size Life. Jaco is playing bass. There are only two bass players in the Jazz hall of fame, Charlie Mingus and Jaco Pastorius. There are many great musicians but very few musical ...
