You just have to go through the process of finding the criminal. This does sound like an electronics issue and tubes will do this sort of thing. Next time it goes out tap the tubes lightly with a screwdriver.
Audio-Technica VM750SH or Goldring 1042
@rauliruegas , Sorry if I hurt your sensibilities but I cannot discount my own experience when offering advice. You make your counterpoint which is fine. I'm sure the two of us could solve the debt ceiling crisis in a heartbeat:-)
Audio-Technica VM750SH or Goldring 1042
@rauliruegas . you are right, an anecdote does not a study make. Yes, the VM sounded surprisingly good with the tonearm's -ss way up in the air. It is not the only AT cartridge I have examined that was not satisfactory. Perhaps the more expensive ...
Linn LP12 Cirkus baring
Only the Garrard people are funnier than you LP12 guys. I say, let's get in some Fiat 500s and go racing!
upgrading from Spica TC60's to ??
@joekras2785 , Forget Magneplanar. You do not have the right amp for them. What you do have the right amp for is the Klipsch RF7 III. These speakers are real sleepers. Their power and presence are remarkable at their price point and because they a...
Looking for Tonearm Advice/Suggestions
@pindac Yes, but the problem is we are all down the rabbit hole. Which cookie did you eat?
Audio-Technica VM750SH or Goldring 1042
@rauliruegas , I wish I could say otherwise Raul but I have examined a few recent AT cartridges and their tolerances are just not as tight as they should be. I had one VM 95ML under the scope that had a SRA of 86 degrees which is the worst I have ...
Subs for SF Amati
@paradisecom 1++ Subwoofers can not beat the laws of physics. Play a 20 Hz test tone at moderate volume and place your hand on the sub's enclosure. It will be shaking./ Newton's third law. Any shaking or vibration of the enclosure = distortion.  ...
Audio-Technica VM750SH or Goldring 1042
The 1042 is an excellent cartridge punching well above its price range. Comparable cartridges are the Clearaudio Charisma and the Soundsmith Voice both way more expensive. The Gyger S stylus is no more difficult to set up than either a Shibata or ...
the big one: how do you choose speakers? By what features, data?
@grislybutter Speed Yellow has a little red in it. It glows in the sun. On the road on a sunny day you can see it a light year away. No! The only Harbeth you are interested in is the P3ESR XD. The small enclosure is almost like having no enclosur...
the big one: how do you choose speakers? By what features, data?
@grislybutter My 911 is Yellow!  If imaging is your priority and with your situation there is only one way to go, The Harbeth P3ESR XD. Put them on stands exactly where yours are now and enjoy. Later you can add two subwoofers to the mix with a t...
the big one: how do you choose speakers? By what features, data?
@grislybutter , If you want to get serious I need to know how much you are willing to spend, the size and layout of your listening room and what kind of music you like.
the big one: how do you choose speakers? By what features, data?
@grislybutter , Marketing is the fine art of lying and numbers can be misleading. Learn about the physics of loudspeakers, crossovers and drivers. Learn about acoustics. Everyone is worried about ears. You need to use your eyes first. This is so a...
Grado Epoch 3
IMHO I think you should reconsider the MC Diamond. Just being a PITA:-)
USD vs Yen who is cashing in! TechDAS
@chauncey , Buy American and get a Basis Inspiration, a much better looking turntable at a better price! If you are defending the Crown get a Dohmann Helix. IMHO both are better than the Air Force turntables.
