Cable elevators - conventional wisdom wrong?
Something else positive I noticed was that the CD case risers create a bit of a tube like effect, in that individual notes are opened up more. Instrument sounds more rounded and dimensional while still retaining enough incisiveness to give a sense...
XLR interconnects?
What I am saying is that great recordings have been made from the 50's on up thru to today. Great recording engineers make the difference, not the technology. I have 16bit recordings that are amazing and I have the latest SACD's that are rather co...
XLR interconnects?
I have a vast collection of unique and hard to find CD's. Most are classical and jazz but they do put to shame many recordings from both the past and present (vinyl included). Great recordings are made by people who care and have an ear for the mu...

The CD cases do work! In fact, based on initial listening they offer the good improvements of the Dark Fields without the drawbacks i.e...blunting of transients, opacity and reduced dynamics. Instrument seperation is improved, definition is enhanc...

CD cases are better..at least no blunting of transients or opaque artifacts.
Krell FPB-600 or FPB-700cx - RCA vs. XLR Input
Owned many Krell amps including the 600. Use balanced connections for the best sound. Do not use coupling cap's unless you wish to destroy the sound...only very tweaky single ended tube preamps would be a problem anyway. The KCT is the best match ...
MIT speaker cable.....
The MIT Oracle V2.1 speaker cables are more transparent, have better soundstaging and offer better harmonic complexity during complex musical passages and high volume situations. Call Joe Abrams at Equus Audio for the full picture and detailed ans...
XLR interconnects?
Point well taken Ralph. Thanks for the insight and background..it is really something to think about.
XLR interconnects?
Ralph seems like a reasonable man who keeps himself open to a free exchange of ideas. Sadly, your profound understanding and insights into the realm of audio preclude any of us mere mortals from even attempting a discussion with your most knowledg...
XLR interconnects?
That's weird-I just checked on him and he was hooking up some single ended tube gear with RCA's! See, depends on the observer and when you check on him. Of course with an infinite number of possible outcomes one should not be surprised that we are...
XLR interconnects?
I agree with you somewhat Atmasphere, but there will always be the cables geometry, network/non-network, insulation and conductor purity/type of metal that will act as a variable. To risk sounding redundant, the technology will get us close, but w...
XLR interconnects?
In the end, the only person who is right is yourself. What YOU HEAR is what matters...not what SOMEONE ELSE says you SHOULD be hearing. Knowledge, understanding and sound engineering get us most of the way there, but for the rest of the journey? W...

I'm going to check out the Acoustic Revive stuff...very interesting.
Cable elevators - conventional wisdom wrong?
Re-checked the Dark Fields in my system and found an immediate dulling of the sound and a blunting of leading edge transients. Not good! The product is a failure as far as I am concerned.
Cable elevators - conventional wisdom wrong?
I may do that. Several years ago Jonathan Valin did a review of the ceramic cable elevators and concluded that there was no free lunch. He found that the body and weight of instruments were reduced, thus affecting their apparent palpability and so...
