Have cartridges been known to fail (Grado)? Grado DJ200i or DJ100i and Grado GOLD are new cartridges, i have a couple of those carts myself. Even when it comes to 40 years old vintage cartridges it is rarely happens.
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart @atmasphere Yes- new tubes. We don't recommend NOS tubes for either the output tubes or the phono tubes. In the case of the latter, its just too hard to find NOS tubes that are actually in fact quiet- those were sold off the shelves decades ago ...
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model) @lewm I hope so, but i’m talking about upgraded / tweaked SL1210 mkII which is much better than the original. While the SL1200GR is not as good as the more expensive G model. I am awaiting for the review from people who can compare them side by si...
Have cartridges been known to fail (Grado)? Nothing wrong with the Grado if the stylus is not destroyed, you can check cartridge coil with volt meter, most likely it’s your turntable cables if you have no signal (the cartridge is not connected to your phono preamp).
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart @jetson Technics own website states that DD was/is mainly considered for DJ use, while belt drive was for “Hi- Fi” use. That’s not true, historically Technics SL1200 is a japanese hi-fi component than later became an iconic turntable for DJs wor...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart If the Herron sound more like solid state phono stage then why not just buy a decent solid state phono stage? I've never tried Herron producsts, i believe they are great, but there must be equal or even better solid state phono stages. Do you beli...
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model) @totem395 why not share the link so we could read about it ? Our man Pani prefered SP-10mkII over the SL1200G (upgraded). Now you said JP prefered old Technics over the SP10R ? I’d like to read his comment about Victor TT-101 versus SP10R People a...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart @atmasphere Just a FWIW: we get about 10,000 hours out of our power tubes and warranty all the tubes in our gear for a year. You're talking about the new tubes, not the expensive vintage NOS tubes that are by far superior to the any new tube. 12a...
Does anything better Jelco arm ~$1000 Jelco, Audiomods ... whatever new arm is available at this price point, do not ignore vintage tonearms designed in the 70s/80s. Especially if you want to exand your cartridge collection, most of the modern tonearms are not designed for high compli...
Help me pick a phono, pre and cart I was into tubes for some time, now even more happy without them. First Watt gear is excellent, i am happy that i replaced my expensive (nearly $3k) tube amp with First Watt F2J and First Watt B1 preamp. I think Raul is right about the tubes, i mu...
Upcoming Technics SP-10R (100th Anniversary Model) @totem395 not on his blog yet, we're waiting for the review if he did such comparison
SP10mk2: OMA Graphite plinth vs.Dobbins plinth I have the original box and original manual for my Micro Seiki CU-180 which i am using now. There is a sticker on the box with model number and they call it "MICRO GOLD DISC CU-180". The manual is in japanese. Here is more about gunmetal: Gunmeta...
Technics SP series mats? I think Technics rubber mat must be replaced, i've had 2-3 different types. They are all bad. I remember how huge was the improvement when i first tried Micro Seiki CU-500 (2.7kg) on my SP-10mkII. Later i discovered SAEC-SS300 (870g) as a cheaper ...
Does anything better Jelco arm ~$1000 @lewm yes, my two sample of Victor UA-7045 were perfect and never refurbished (just perfect condition), there are samples without problems with the counterweight and rubber grommet (the original). I think it depends how it was stored and used by t...
SP10mk2: OMA Graphite plinth vs.Dobbins plinth @ferrari275 you said you tried the slim CU-180 (1.8kg), but try the thick CU-500 (2.7kg) if you want to compete with the AF (3.6kg). Or simply add SAEC SS-300 in this competition. Micro Seiki made comparison chart with various mats of that era, th... |
