What is the average lifespan of a phono cartridge? It depends on the stylus profile: Conical has very short life up to 300hrs, MicroRidge has the longes life up to 2000 hrs! I see ads for used cartridges stating that its barely broken in at 200 hours This is not true, even for Elliptical stylus i...
Best TT under $1k Get yourself a used japanese Direct Drive instead of those cheap belt drive nonsense. The reason why they are relatively cheap is the belt drive. Used Technics is still cheap just because Matsishita made millions of them. But a good Direct Drive m...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new Your cartridge, Harold, is most likely refurbished/recantilevered 13D, but not the original. The index "13" is nothing else but the length of the Diamond Cantilever (1.3 mm). Your Dyna has Boron Cantilever of the different length, if the length ...
Spend my $1000 on a turntable There is nothing wrong with them except ... .. that they are cheap belt drive turntables and can not compete with decent Direct Drives in terms of speed stability. These Regas looks like a toy and act like a toy, a mediocre turntable for those w...
Spend my $1000 on a turntable Why do you want to sell Direct Drive turntable to buy more expensive Belt Drive turntable?I understand an upgrade from one Direct Drive to another Direct Drive, but to a belt drive .... ??? All you need is to replace the stock tonearm on your Tech...
Which wood Grado Can I get that with the $600 or $700 budget in the Wood line and which one would be the best. MM or MC. All Grado cartridges are MI, not an MC: "Although we were granted our patents for the stereo moving coil cartridge in 1959 we ceased manufac...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? @dover I have never heard the current P77i, only the first 2 iterations from the original Garrott Bros. Halcro I think has both old and new. Well, his "new" is JICO SAS (MicroRidge) made in Japan, it can be a Sapphire, Ruby or older Boron canti...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? @dover I suspect @chakster 's P77 is the original. It is not that rare - I have seen many samples that look identical to Chakster's P77 in Europe, US & here in New Zealand. It could also be the early P66 with the early P77 stylus. Now in term...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? @halcro I know for sure that my Garrott generator is not new, because ALL new versions have Dynamic Coil stamp on the frontside, check their website. This is what you can buy right now, and there will be Dynamic Coil logo. My cartridge is P77, it ...
Ugraditus is calling....again. Phono stage? @uberwaltz I have not tried any MM with PH-10, no time for this yet as i bought this phono stage primary for LOMC cartridges. It's amazing that both independent inputs can be used as MC inputs. But i will definitely try my vintage MM with this sta...
Ugraditus is calling....again. Phono stage? My present cart is 0.24mv and I run that at -0.3db and the background is the quietest I have ever heard. Right, it's deadquiet with all my MC cartridges (0.15 - 0.30mV), except for the Ortofon MC200 which is just 0.05mV (the lowest output ever).
New Technics SL1200gr, anyone taken the leap. Look for Signal Cable Silver Resolution handcrafted in NYCPhono RCAs to RCAs available in various custom length. I am using it now with LOMC cartridges. It’s a great silver cable for reasonable price! But i don’t use Neutrik RCAs that comes with th...
Grado Stylus Upgrade @jaf36 I bought the 8mz stylus and installed in the Gold body. The stylus is a significant upgrade over the stock stylus. The Gold stylus doesn’t present as much treble resolution as the 8mz. next time you can upgrade with XTZ stylus for the sa...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? There are ONLY two type of Garrott cartridges as far as i know:@halcro 1) One made by brothers and it's called P77 there is no "Dynamic Coil" sign on the generator, at least on my old samle which i bought from another reputable Australian audioph...
Ugraditus is calling....again. Phono stage? Unboxed in Aug.11th and connected to one of my Luxman PD-444 turntables since that day. Gold Note PH-10 quickly became my favorite high-end phono stage for MC cartridges! This is one and only phono stage that can drive my 0.05mV output Ortofon MC2... |
