You may effect some drastic changes just by playing with the placement of your speakers. Isolation feet can have a big effect on the components, and certainly the acoustics of the room is a huge factor.Since you have not spoken about any of these ...
Is Audio Research Corp alive and well?
I have good information that ARC is solid and doing fine. The rumors that the company is for sale have circulated for about five years now. No doubt that if the right buyer came along and offered the right money, it could be bought. In this economy...

Has anyone had dealings with The Camera Club.com
Hopefully you have not sent payment in advance. If you used a credit card you can threaten them with cancellation of the order and turn them over to the credit card company.Strangely, some mail order companies use this credit card "float" to enhan...
Weights for Tuning Enclosure Vibrations
Have not tried the Mapleshade heavyhats, but use the Walker damping discs on several components. What I find is the Walker is a tweak, and I suspect the other items listed here fall into the same category. These can improve what is already there, bu...
Burning in my Sony DVP-S9000ES -- best approach
I totally agree with Bmpnyc, including his suggestions for isolation. One guy in my audio group broke from the rest of us with this player. He choose Symposium Roller Blocks over my selection of Mod Squad Soft Shoes. Couldn't hurt to experiment wi...

What is the best used tube checker out there for
Another inexpensive and uncomplicated model is the B&K 747. Rarely needs adjustment and is accurate at determining and matching transconductance readings on most audio tubes.
Have you tried "doping" your speaker cones?
Strange Sean, usually whizzer comes after too much alcohol, not dope.
Have you ever collected on insurance????
I had a custom piece of furniture built, when completed the manufacturer suggested Watkins motor freight.Crate arrived at Watkins warehouse, whereupon they phoned me for delivery instructions. I ask if I may pick up and answered yes.Upon inspectio...
Personal speaker evolution
Mine will be a fairly long list, but to the best of my ability I will list in order what I have owned. Some of these I owned at the same time.RCA table top turntable with "HI Fi speaker"Curtis Mathis Console with Gerrard TurntableBozak 301Bozak Co...
Supplied equipment feet or cones ,etc?
Same as above for myself, except that I evolved to Mod Squad Soft Shoes, designed and manufactured by Steve McCormack when he was "The Mod Squad."After all these years, even though my system is very high end now, I still prefer the Soft Shoes unde...
MC cartridge with "big rich and life-like"
My vote would be for the Benz Reference or Koetsu Rosewood. The Clear Audio Insider is one of my first choices as well, but is somewhat "faster and leaner" than the other two. Much of this depends on cable, turntable and arm choices, set up proced...
New Grill Cloth
John (Stereomaniac) and I have traded emails and I am making him a gift of a large piece of Soundlab spandex grill material. He should have more than enough to experiment with, and still cover both grills with plenty left over for spares, sould dam...
A little extra insurance on the cheap-Shipping
The Futon An uncomfortable sofa that makes into an equally uncomfortable bed. But hey, a Rowland amp doesn't care :^).
