What are you streaming tonight?
Alceu Valença - Sem Pensar No Amanhã Spotify Just testing the new BluOS interface with Spotify. Not bad, and I’ll probably use it to music I can’t find on Qobuz. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of music, and blown away to find out that one of my favorite Brazilian musicians just released a new album. |
Natural Information Society - descencion (Out Of Our Constrictions) Qobuz Hi-Res How best to describe this? Ambient BeBop? Yeah, that’s it. |
big_greg I really enjoyed the live Norah, too! One of the apparent side effects of the pandemic is the proliferation of live recordings being issued. Artists can’t tour, so they have to make money by releasing live performances or new material. And since we are all at home I guess they have a ready audience! |
BTW, I tend to be more active in finding music and don’t like to rely on computer algorithms. They tend to pigeonhole their suggestions after a while. I have found the UDiscover Music has some good articles and the ubiquitous “Best Of” lists. If I am interested in a particular style of music they probably have an article about it; that helps me to plan my listening. A recent article is posted below: https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/the-100-greatest-blues-albums/ |
n80 I wholeheartedly agree! I don’t use Qobuz’s recommendations, but then again I enjoy the thrill of the hunt. The people on this thread always post stuff I am willing to check out. And Qobuz does have a large library. Per your earlier suggestion, I try to post rudimentary descriptions about what I’m listening to when I have the time or inclination. I only seem to post about half the stuff I listen to, though, due to time or laziness. But I do like it when someone advocates for music I’m not familiar with, and I am more likely than not to check it out. I have had a few revelations that way. Speaking of the OP, has anyone heard from uberwaltz lately? |
Mulatu Astatqé – Éthiopiques 4: Ethio Jazz & Musique Instrumentale 1969-1974 Qobuz Interesting jazz compilation from Ethiopia |
The Beatles - Revolver Qobuz I came across this article on Discogs about how listening to this album on headphones improves many of its engineering faults. I thought I’d break out my Meze 99 Noir headphones and check out the authors assertions. They make some good points. https://blog.discogs.com/en/headphone-experience-the-beatles-revolver/?utm_medium=pm&utm_source=... |
Nancy Wilson - You And Me Qobuz Hi-Res big_greg I thought you referenced to the OTHER Nancy Wilson, and was eager to check out the album. 😬. A very enjoyable solo album from the former member of Heart (not the solo jazz singer…) |
big_greg i enjoyed the Moby album. I haven’t sat down in front of my system in a couple weeks, having been on the road and taking care of my parents, so I could have been in bliss listening to The Shags, for what it’s worth. I did really like “We are all made of stars” and his cover of “Heroes”. |
Big Star- #1 Album Qobuz A pleasant surprise! I was reading an article on Shortlist “The 55 Coolest Albums of All Time” (I’m a list junkie…) and came across this on. Never heard of the group or the album, but I certainly recognized much of the music. The third song, “In The Street”, was the theme for That 70s Show. All around cool album. |
loomisjohnson One of the reasons I like streaming is that it is easier to find things I overlooked. There’s lots of music out there, not just the same old stuff I’ve listened to in the past. I love a new (to me) discovery. |
Been on the road again checking in with the parental units. Back home and relaxing in my music room, checking the new stuff on Qobuz Jam & Lewis - Jam & Lewis Vol 1 in Hi-Res Good, old-fashioned R&B. It’ll get you hopping on the dance floor. Os Mutantes - Os Mutantes They have been called a Brazilian version of the Velvet Underground because of their wide-ranging effect on musica popular do brasil (MPB). If you are curious at all about Brazilian music, please check this out. |
