TV Sound Compression

I understand the need for compression (tiny TV speakers), but thought that it is done by TV station.  I discovered "Compression" setting in the menu on my new Sony TV.  When I turned it off sound became more dynamic, as expected.  I wonder if this particular TV has additional compression, that can be turned off, or TV sends always uncompressed audio.  I have no way to check/measure it.  My older Sony TV sounded compressed even when sending signal to external DAC-Amp-Speakers.

@mahler123  My older Sony had no setting for that, but Bravia 9 (and likely all Bravias) has it.  I wan't to know who is compressing - TV station or TV itself.   Perhaps it is TV station and TV compresses even more for better sound on tiny speakers.   I can hear the difference, but am waiting for good classical concert, but even then what to compare to?  To my compressed CD music?
